The 2017 Volkswagen Golf Has Streamlined Trims and More

If you have been paying attention to the 2017 Volkswagen lineup, you will notice that they have been streamlining most models' trim offerings that give drivers more features but at a lower price. The 2017 VW Golf is one of the affected models with the two-door models now gone and the four-door versions of the SE and SEL trims only available through special ordering and on a very limited basis. This leaves the Golf S and the Wolfsburg Edition, both of which have four doors. The S is more or less the same as it was for the 2016 model, but the Wolfsburg Edition is all new. It includes premium features such as a blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, autonomous braking for forward collision warning, heated front seats, leatherette upholstery, a sunroof, keyless entry, push-button start, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

People interested in the related Golf models will see that the Golf GTI retains its familiar trim choices, but adds a new Golf GTI Sport that fits between the base S and the SE trims. This new trim comes standard with the Performance Package for the Golf R's brakes, a limited-slip differential, and 220 horsepower on the turbo engine. It also has its own additional features, including 8-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, bi-xenon headlights, keyless entry, and push-button start. The Golf Alltrack is an all-new model for the 2017 year, giving drivers more capabilities while the e-Golf has enhanced range and power, along with revised styling.

From Rabbit to Golf: Exploring the VW Hatchback's History

The Golf is already over 40 years old. This hatchback was first sold in the United States under the name Rabbit, although many international markets have always known it as the Golf. The first Golf (or Rabbit) arrived in 1974, featuring crisp lines, a water-cooled engine, and front-wheel drive with the GTI arriving the next year. By the fourth generation in 1997, Volkswagen made the Golf feel more upmarket, leading to some design awards. The 2013 Golf brought the MK7 or seventh generation of this hatchback, which included a new platform and styling that you will recognize.
