The Golf GTI Loads Up for This Cycle’s Back Nine
The godfather of hot hatches didn’t necessarily need to stop for a breather – but it’s getting a midcycle refresh, regardless.Â
For its 2025 model year, the Volkswagen Golf GTI will receive new headlights, taillights, and wheel designs. One of the most fun-to-drive vehicles also gets a much-appreciated technology upgrade, including larger screens and a ChatGPT feature. Today, Volkswagen of Macon explores everything new you can expect from the eighth-generation hatchback’s latest edition.Â
Bigger Screens, Smarter A.I.Â
Out are the 2024 Golf GTI’s diminutive 8.25-inch infotainment displays. In their place are larger touchscreens with an updated infotainment system, new graphics, and a fresh menu structure. Expect wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to come standard with the hatchback’s new infotainment system. Additionally, the Golf GTI’s new Digital Cockpit gives you the ability to display the navigation map between the speedometer and tachometer, giving the already versatile cockpit another level of personalization.Â
The other major tech addition to the new Golf GTI is ChatGPT taking on a role in the infotainment system. GTI drivers will be able to access ChatGPT through voice commands, with the goal of having a natural conversation with the voice assistant. As the role of A.I. continues to expand worldwide, Volkswagen continues exploring optimal ways to implement it into your driving routine. With a ChatGPT voice assistant on hand to answer all your questions, the days of needlessly endangering yourself or others by checking your phone mid-drive are gone.Â
It’s Totally AutomaticÂ
One thing you won’t find in the 2025 Golf GTI is manual transmission. Instead, the intuitive seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox is in charge. While some will miss the stick shift optionality, the new Golf GTI compensates by giving its turbo four-cylinder engine more power than ever before. And with responsive steering, a firm brake pedal, and intuitive turning, the Golf GTI remains one of the more run cars to drive.Â
Stylistically, the Golf GTI’s headlights and taillights have both been revamped. It sports new, bubbly wheel designs that, like the powertrain, express an eagerness to hit the road. And the hatch’s four-door body offers its most rear-seat passenger and cargo space yet. You don’t traditionally think of practicality when you think of the Golf GTI, but the 2025 model offers this in spades.Â
